The Importance of Self Care for Human Service Providers
Coming from a social work background, I understand that the work of a human service provider can be
both incredibly rewarding and incredibly draining. Limited funding and increased need
means an endless amount of work to be done.
The stress and trauma of witnessing violence, poverty, and heart breaking stories daily takes a toll,
potentially reducing our passion for the work and the quality of our services over time.
Some feel this burden emotionally - feeling irritable, anxious or depressed. Others experience physical pain - migraines, neck and shoulder tension, painful periods or digestive distress. Spiritually, one might begin to question the value of the work - if it is really helping, or if you as an individual have anything special to offer.
These symptoms are all signs that you have reached some degree of burnout in your work.
You do not have to just suffer through it.
In order to continue doing this work that you love it is essential to find ways to take care of yourself.
As an acupuncturist and body worker I have seen profound changes in the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of my patients in just a few treatments. Just taking the step toward self care - choosing you! - can be a deeply healing experience. Acupuncture is proven effective for the treatment of headaches, acute and chronic pain, menstrual irregularities, menopausal symptoms, depression, anxiety, and much much more. It is an integrated and complete system of health which diagnoses and resolves illness at its root.
Believe that you can do good work in the world and make real changes in the lives of others
without compromising your personal health.
Discounts are available for social workers, teachers, and other human service providers.
